During a cardiac arrest, the first moments are critical in saving the life of a patient. It is a matter of life and death. Those first minutes in case of an attack can determine whether the patient will survive or die. If you are a professional who directly handles cardiovascular emergencies, you need to train with an ACLS Houston institution to acquire the advanced life support skill.

There are many websites and institutions, which claim they are AHA accredited but this is not the case. Ensure you evaluate the competency of an instructor before you undertake the course. There are many topics covered in the training including those related on how to recognize and respond to emergencies like cardiac arrest.

The first minutes when a patient suffers a cardiovascular complication are very crucial for survival. If resuscitation is not conducted in the correct manner, the patients may easily lose life. Many patients have lost their lives because there was no one knowledgeable in resuscitation when the emergencies occurred. Such deaths can be minimized if people take appropriate advanced life support training and first aid courses.

Early management of a pre-arrest condition would also be helpful. Symptoms like bradycardia may manifest first before an attack occurs. If you are able to recognize such symptoms and act appropriately, you could even prevent a cardiac arrest from occurring in the first place. Many of the emergencies occur in homes where there are no doctors or other medical personnel to provide first aid and life supporting help.

Usually, when you do not act immediately when an emergency has occurred, by the time you take a patient to hospital or call doctors, already the complication is very serious. This is why most resuscitation procedure would fail in hospitals yet there are very qualified resuscitation teams. The reason is not because of lack of knowledge but because it takes quite a while to reach the hospital or for the medical team to arrive in case of a cardiac arrest.

You may attend a local class within your areas. Different hospital facilities provide this course to the employees. You may want to check for other reputable education facilities, which provide first aid training, BLS, and ACLS courses. Ensure you train with an organization or institution, which is recognized by the American Heart Association.

In addition, inquire about the mode of training and the practical test exams. When you look for an institution in your local area, ensure that the certification it offers is accredited by American Heart Association-AHA. This certification is regulated by AHA and International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation. Not all institutions that offer the training are able to meet the standards required by these regulation bodies.

The ACLS course is mainly designed for professionals working in the healthcare field who either directly manage cardiopulmonary emergencies and cardiovascular conditions, or they participate in such life saving procedures. Therefore, it is not meant for every other person. Nurses, physicians, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and staff in the intensive care unit can take this course.
